Barcombe Avenue is a side extension and remodeling of the ground floor of a four-bedroom family home in the Leigham Court Estate Conservation Area in Lambeth. The design features vibrant colours and textures, creating a space with distinct personality.
The client wanted to maximize the kitchen and dining area by utilizing the underused external side passage. The main challenge was to create a contemporary space suitable for modern living while respecting the historical context of the location. To address this, the side extension was built with a glass pitched roof that blends seamlessly with the existing buildings.
The redesigned ground floor features interconnected rooms, providing a cohesive experience throughout. The glazed roof with exposed oak rafters offers expansive views and floods the kitchen with natural light.
The bespoke kitchen is made from plywood carcasses, ensuring durability and adding a warm, natural texture that complements the timber flooring. Along with a terrazzo worktop, these materials were chosen to create a stylish environment that aligns with the lively design ethos of the house.
